Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve
When the lake freezes over in winter the ducks, geese, swans and other water birds have no choice but to walk on the lake instead of swim in it.

I bet you have never seen this much water flowing across the weir! This was caused by a build up of leaves and other debris against the duckling net. Once cleared the lake could get back to it's natural level.
This is the larvae of a stag beetle found by the water bailiff's whilst repairing the steps down to one of the fishing bays. They live in the rotting wood.
